Everyone is trying to convince me to be an IT communist.

Project managers, solution architects and IT managers — there are a lot of people out there who believe that IT should be centrally planned. Furthermore, most believe it's my job (as a Enterprise Architect) to perform this draconian feat.

It is neither possible nor desirable for a small team to centrally plan the IT of any large organization.

Think Global, Act Local

Enterprise Architecture enables solution teams to think global, act local.

Enterprise Architecture also provides executives with transparency. Answering the question: are proposed solutions globally optimized? (or have local tactical decisions been made)
